Fantabulous Day # 157 – You Don’t Need Garlic to Get Rid of Vampires!…..OH MY!..Soap Box Sunday

When people think of ways to reduce their carbon footprint, they think first of reducing their electricity usage. One reason for this is because it will also save money. Of course that is one way to help save the world. Within the “save energy realm” there is the reduction of vampire or phantom loads.

Now, you are thinking what is vampire or phantom loads? Let me tell you. Simply put, these terms refer to the standby power used by electrical appliances when you think they are off. If your television or DVD player has a tiny light on when you turn it off, chances are there is a vampire in your house. Yikes! Even items that don’t have a light could be a vampire.

There are a couple of ways to reduce this invisible electricity waste. You can unplug everything when not in use, or purchase special power strips, or even install a main switch that will turn everything off, fully, when you are not using them. Of course, you always want to leave the fridge on.

My goal is to have the green switch install eventually in my home. That way I can be lazy and only flip a switch to turn off everything. Since that is not an option at this time, I purchased smart strips for every room in my home. That is just a small thing that I hope will have a big impact on MY carbon footprint and if I save money in the process that would be great too. Then I can use that saving to do something else green. 🙂

Fantabulous Day #155 – Afghan Apreciation Day & Girl Power

Today was Afghan Employee Appreciation Day for our company.  Basically it was a huge lunch to say thank you for the hard work.  Actually this was yesterday.  I was too tired to gather my thoughts for this one.  It was a great day.  We are not only here to support the military but we are teaching the Afghan people to support themselves.  That’s not going so well, but some of the Afghan employees do a great job that work with us.  Believe me those suckers will mutiny in a minute.

Small % of our workers. I am dead center.

This is only a small percentage of our workers.  I know it is hard to see, but it is all man here.  Despite what you may have heard US woman are well respected. Our boss makes sure the Afghan women are as well.  There are not many Afghan woman who are allowed to work with American companies.  Of course we westerners embrace change.  The two women on the left were still going through the hiring process.

Below is our Girl Power! minus one.  I was mad that I did not get a shot of all the ladies. Oh well, maybe next time.  All the important people were there. Namely the Queen! 🙂

As usual, it only takes a small group to make things happen.  I only took pictures, but all the other old folks were drop dead tired.  We poured a few drops of water into their mouths so they would not dehydrate and left them there.  We figured they would wake up eventually.  🙂

All in all, it turned out to be a great day.  Thanks Boss! And honorable mention to the lazy bums in the picture.

Fantabulous Day #154 Wednesday Rewind #54 – Recognize Your Fan Club

I decided to try something different.  I wanted to take a look back to see what I was doing last year at this time.  Blogs are an amazing way to take a snap shot in time.  At this time last year, my blog was still in its infancy and my words were a little dry.  Don’t get me wrong, I have always had good stuff to share.  So here we go…this is what I posted 9/24/2011.  (My Exact Post) Start…..

I thought the title for today’s post was so appropriate.  I was walking down the street at my new site here in sunny Kurkuk, Iraq.  Don’t worry I am on a military installation.  Also keep in mind that I only got to this site a couple of days ago.  Back to the story.  There were people stopping me and yelling out of cars at me.  These were people that I have met over the years in different places.  Some of them I met in Afghanistan.  As I was walking yesterday and this happened, I said to myself  “there is another one of my fans”.

I only said it to myself, but I also thought to myself how conceded that would have seem to someone if I had said it out loud.  As I walked on, I recognized that there are so many people around me that support me in different ways.  There are my family that help with the things I need done at home and support my decision to work here overseas.  There are the people I work with that support me by being loyal and working hard so WE look good.  Then there are just the ordinary, extraordinary people that I meet everyday.

There is a fan club out there for everyone.  You have one even if you don’t know it.  Take a minute to think about it.

You will be surprised!

Activity I did today:  Walk Run to the Gym.  Treadmill Day.
How Motivate am I:  Extremely motivated
Overall Mood:      Fantabulous Mood

I was just about to lose my job, but unknowingly to me, I was also a few days away from being made a job offer for my current job.  It was a time of uncertainty for me, but I never thought that I would be jobless, not at all.

I would love to hear what you were doing a year ago on for this Wednesday Rewind. Go ahead lets hear it.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #153 – OH No! It’s Moving Day & Nobody Told Me..Ugggg

Moving Gheddo Style. 🙂

Really nobody told me.  The dirty dogs.  I got to work and I was told you need to move offices.  When?  Today!  Ahhhhhhhhh! (You have to say that last sentence as if you are Charlie Brown)  That is telling my age.

OK, I really did not put up much of a fight.  My current office kind of sucked, but I’m not one to complain.  🙂  As you can see I immediately looked on the bright side of things.

My thoughts: (You have to read these fast!)

Oh No!
I have to start in 2 hours.
I hope I don’t have to pick up anything. There is a lot of stuff in here.
I only have Nawid to help. OMG!
I can’t believe Simon is not here.
I should have called out sick.
Good thing I didn’t do my nails today..I would have been pissed!

Then the positive thoughts set in: (You have to read these slow!)

I can throw my charm around to get the men to move my stuff.
We have a gazillion bags.  Finally I can recycle.
The sun is much better on this side of the building.
I am so much closer to the bathroom, but far enough away so I don’t have to smell it.
I can see all the beautiful men in shorts playing soccer, with bustling muscles, that call my name  get lots of fresh air from my window, which happens to be over the soccer field. 🙂 🙂
Best of all…Finally an excuse not to work.  (I wonder how long I can stretch this out?) 🙂

(Back to Normal Speed)

Simon is my office mate  and of course he is somewhere in the world exercising his elbows right now.  Drinking I am assuming….without me….that pathetic so in so.  I still love him anyway.  Somebodies got to do it.  I will be doing it next month and he can hold down the fort. Whenever one of us are out on R&R someone makes a decision for us to move.  What is up with that? This is move number 4 in the last 8 months.  😦

So I have to be the mastermind of the office move this time.  Thankfully we only moved a couple of offices down.  And you know since I am a lotus blossom, I really didn’t pick up anything heavy.  I was however very tired from directing traffic.  My finger was exhausted from pointing to the places that I wanted stuff unloaded to and stuff picked up from.  I even got tired of telling those guys a little to the left, no no more to the right.  That may sound hilarious, but keep in mind they didn’t speak a word of English.  So I may as well of been speaking Greek, which I don’t speak either, but I think my English is good (not great) on most days.   I will blame that on my public school education 🙂

Of course we moved ghetto style as you can see from the boxes bags in the picture.  No, they weren’t Walmart bags, but they sure look like them.  I think Walmart may order their bag stash from Afghanistan.  At least I will not be seeing these bags in the one canal that goes through the middle of town here in Kabul.  If I didn’t know any better, I would think that WAS the landfill.  (Not Joking!)

At the end of the day, all got move.  Nothing got broken (to include my nails).  We were all happy in the end.  At least I was and that is what counts when you are in the office with the Queen.

You Lurvly Lotus Queen Lizzy 🙂

Awwww…Somebody Left Me Flowers. XOXO!

PS.  I got flowers to soften the blow.  Thanks, you know who.  🙂  (Actually it was just a picture left on my desk, I am not picky.  )

Fantabulous Day #152 – Hello, I’m Not Invisible…Can You Talk to Me?

Me Trying to Get Your Attention.  I didn’t think I could make a ugly face because I am so beautiful, but OK.  I was trying to cross my eyes.  Didn’t work.  Oh Well! 🙂

Disclaimer:  This post is not to gain popularity.  You can leave a comment only if you really love me and think I am the best thing since red koo-laid.  🙂

Only kidding this is not about me at all for a change, or is it?

Story – Once upon a time on a blog far far away, Queen Lizzy found an interesting person writing and posting great pictures in the Blog-o-sphere.  A person who shall remain nameless.  The Queen decided that this blog was worthy of following and she “liked” it on most days.  She liked it so much, she read all the interesting post and left encouraging remarks behind. But alas there was a feeling of nothingness.  It was like the Queen was never there.  And it made here very sad.  The End.

I have to wonder what is the purpose of someone blogging, if they never respond to you.  I must admit I love to follow the blog in the story above.  I am pretty sure, I have commented on that blog over 50 times and that person has not once ever sent me a response.  As a matter of fact I have not seen any responses to any comments.  This is a pretty popular blog mind you.

You are probably saying or shouting at me to just stop commenting.  Well I am pretty much on a mission to see if that person will ever see me for who I really am (simple blog folk, looking for attention to appease my blog crack habit)  and at least acknowledge my presence.  Keep in mind my comments are always tasteful, motivating or down right silly.  I never post anything negative.  That is just not my way.

I have probably comment on your blog if you are reading this. 🙂  It is just a lot of darn fun for me.  🙂 I am one of those people you can not get rid of or unfriend.  There is no unfriend button on blogs.  Thank God, although there may be some sort of  block feature.  Nevermind….

I guess the same can be said about people walking on the street.  If someone is looking dead in your eyes when they walk by, why can’t they say a simple hello or even give a simple head nod.  I have been guilty of it myself.  I do try and make an effort to speak to everyone and I do mean everyone.  I don’t think that is being too annoying, do you?

What does blogging mean to me? I love the interaction I get with other like minded people.  I have even accepted some great advice and learn a lot from my blog buddies.  I think everyone of them has something great to say or I would not be following them.  Plus they justify my craziness most of the time.  They egg me on.  🙂  That satisfies my inner child needs.  🙂

I am not writing this to try to coax anyone into leaving comments here.  I am just saying I think it is pretty crappy not to respond to anyone.  I am not giving up.  I am determine to ware that blogger down, even if I brake a finger nail or two.  Of course I will only leave kind words. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Your Last Word &  Lurvly Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #151 – What a Beautiful Mug You Have…….Soapbox Sunday

That’s right it hippy time.  I just wanted to jump up on my soap box to save my world.  I am very selfish that way.  Lots of people jump on their soap box to save the earth.  Not me, I only care about myself when it comes to the environment.  I don’t proclaim to be a militant hippy or a super militant vegan that wants to shove my beliefs down your throat.  I just like to share what works for me.  Those things that work for me in the world of “Life as I Live It”  just might work for you.

Sometimes you need to be told what you don’t know or should I say is I need to be told what I don’t know.  One great way to save trash from the landfill is to simply use mugs.  We humans drink a tremendous amount of warm beverages daily.  Why not have a mug and reuse it.  I know there are several coffee chains and some restaurants that will allow you to bring your own cups or mugs in to be filled.

In my office, I made the offer to wash mugs daily if everyone agreed to not use temporary ones.  You know the guys were down with that one.  I actually don’t mind washing the dishes.  It is mindless work, thus therapeutic.    Some may not see it that way, hence my offer to lend a helping hand.

No additional paper, plastic or foam in the landfill.  I have done my part.  I also think I have inadvertently save a little piece of the earth with my selfish ways.  That is allllll  right.  I can get off soap box now.  I promised myself to keep it short and sweet like myself.  Except I am not short at all.  Although I am not that tall either.  I will leave that for another time.

I am stepping slowly off the box.

Soap Box Sunday

I like that “Soap Box Sunday.”  🙂  Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Fantabulous Day #150 – Say What You Mean & Mean What You Say..Don’t Tell Lizzy That!

Facebook Conversation With My Friend. Click on image to enlarge and read. Click Browser back button to get back to Post.

I had a teacher whose answer to any question that you asked would be “Say what you mean and mean what you say”.  He would also make sure that he watched the class very vigilantly while we were where taking a test because, as he would say “I know the students philosophy, it is better to cheat than to repeat.” That teachers name was Mr. Moore and he was an excellent math teacher.  I wonder whatever happened to him.

That is one of the few things that I retained from my high school days.  I hated school.  It was no fun for me and I had about 2 good friends.  I know that is hard to believe, but I am a very different person than I was at 18.  I was a decent student just not too popular.  When I go home, it is amazing because my fellow students actual still recognize me and they know my name.  I don’t remember anybody and forget about remembering names.  Yes, I am that old.  I feel so ashamed.

I guess I should be careful what I say in my post.  It is nothing worse than being misunderstood.  I was FaceBooking it all day yesterday, which is something I never do.  I am more of a lurker.  I actually know everyone I allowed to be my friend.  Howeverrrrrr……I don’t like alot of the crap some people write.  I decided I was not going to put up with it anymore and here are some of the post I wrote:    Note:  Click to enlarge unless you have really good eyeballs, which I don’t.

Then the diatribe began.  Diatribe meaning RANT!

I just couldn’t stop myself.

Then I had to stop myself, before I was the one getting kicked.  One more…

Yes, these are actual post.  I did apologize in advance on all postings. That should count for something.  So I think I got my point across.   You are welcome to use any of these rants  to clean up your friends list if you like. Don’t be afraid.  People will love you for cleaning your list up.  That way you will not be tempted to pass on the crap to the other Facebook, goodie two shoes on your list.  The good simple folk that is.  🙂

There, I said exactly what I meant to say, needless to say my friends list got a lot lighter. My suggestion, be direct, to the point and let them have it.  If they don’t like it, then they can unfriend you first.  🙂  I don’t think I would be insulted, would you?

Your Lurvly Ranting “Friend”  Lizzy 🙂

PS – Don’t worry, I intend to keep all my blogging buddies on the list.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #149 – Can’t Breath…Get Moving…I Did It..It Worked!

Just Finished

What a great start for my day off.  I feel so productive already.  I ran 5.39 miles this morning.  That was long for me.  I sure got a long way to go, but I feel good.  I was actually awaken with a nose that I couldn’t breath from.  Surprisingly I slept good last night.  I picked up some kind of crud from someone or something around here.  I am the type of person who will suffer, because I refuse to take any medication.  I think I would feel worse if I took something. It’s not so bad, because I am use to rolling like that.

Since I forgot to turn my 10 alarms settings off on my phone (I am exaggerating, it is 5 alarm settings, really) I was awaken at 6 am.  Since I couldn’t breath, I had to get up and try to blow my nose.  So I said to self  “Your lungs will feel better if you go for your run this morning.”  And guess what?  I did.

The weather was perfect.  I am finished now and it is 9 am.  It is 70° C right now.  So it was a bit cooler when I ran.  It felt good, although I did not run at all last week.  My problem is getting started.  If I don’t start, I don’t finish.  My run weeks start on Friday, so this was a good start.  Sorry for talking circles.  Speaking of circles my route got a bit bigger.  I did not run in tiny loops today.  I ran outside (Yeah!), I ran as wide as I could on the camp while doing some switch backs, but that made the run a bit more enjoyable.

1 hr later

I got Miguel to take some pictures of me.  He has to leave in a couple of days to go back to his permanent site in Bagram.  I sure hate to see him go.  I always have fun with Miguel.  Any who,  my stomach is growling something fierce and I am afraid it is in danger of turning on itself (like a zombie stomach).  I am all about the zombies right now.  So it is time to forage for food.  You know since I ran all that way, I don’t intend to mess up my calorie burn.

Just Kidding

After all, I am looking good these days.  That is what I tell myself so I will be motivated to keep moving.  🙂

You Lurvly Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #148 – Big Feet..No Problem..Baby Steps & 100 Likes

I love these Shoes!

My feet ain’t that big, but you know what I mean.  I am a huge advocate of starting any endeavor slowly and building up.  If I tried to go run a marathon before doing any training, I would be so disappointed and would quit.  I did decide to run the Disney 1/2 marathon without knowing if I could actually do it.  I have faith in myself and I am like the little train that can. So I signed up and I am on my way.

It is good to have goals.  I like having race goals.  That usually keeps me running moving, because I don’t want to look like a total poopy head when race time comes around.  I started in May.  I am now 4 months into my training and I have 3 months left until the big day.   I am so excited and happy I decided to do this.

Originally when I started this blog my goal was to post 365 post in 365 days.  Life happened and that goal went down the drain.  I really was not that motivated since I did not get any traffic on my GoDaddy blog site.  That site sucked.  I wish I had started with WordPress.  I get some fantabulous feedback.  I love to entertain, can’t you tell.  Being hosted on GoDaddy was like having a party that nobody wanted to come to.  You know “All dressed up with nowhere to go thing.”  Oh well.  Sorry for the rant.  I love WordPress.  🙂

I started with WordPress at the beginning of July and I have over 100 likes.  That is so awesome.  I know for sure at least somebody actually read my entertaining stuff 100 times.  That is so cool.   I have also gained some great online buddies to boot.  So my original goal was not a bust, it just morphed into something else.  It was not a total failure.  I love it.

I still have to remember to take baby steps with whatever I do.  Sometimes I have the all or nothing mentality and that never works for me.  Oh well.

Your Lurvly Likable 🙂 Lizzy

Fantabulous Day #147 – Zombies…ZOMbies…..ZOMBIES! Run, Liz, Run! Zombie Run 10K Sign Up

I have been watching the Walking Dead TV series and I love zombie mania.  Then I started seeing these cool posters popping up all over the compound.  Zombie Runs…sounds interesting.  I know there are probably a gazillion zombie runs going on all over the US from now until Halloween.  This is going to be so exciting.  I not only signed myself up for the 10K, but I drug my co-workers into it kicking and screaming as well.  I figure we could always use some team building.  🙂

I didn’t think I would have a chance to do any more official runs before the Disney 1/2 Marathon.  So this will be a good gauge of where I am in my training.  Believe it or not, I am not even nervous.  I am planning to have a lot of fun and not take it too seriously.  I am not going to worry too much on my best time, but I do want to stay within a certain time frame per mile.  Actually, this will be my first 10K, so any time will be my best time.  🙂 I still think it is doable.

Zombies in Kabul 1/2 2012

I have become the company team organizer.  My plan was to use this as a team building activity and get everyone moving.  All the Suckers good, kind people fell for it agreed.  My company also agreed to get us all race shirts, which is awesome.   That was an incentive for my fellow zombies to run of course.  They are so greedy.  🙂

Brains are Sweet at 6000FT

I guess I better get running, because I have not ran a lick this week and I am OK with that.  Yeah, I am one of those kind of runner.  I do want to have a decent time so I will resume my training.

Are any of you out there running with the Zombies this fall season?

Your Zombie & Lurvly Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #145 – Hey There’s a Booger In Your Nose!

I swear I can not see you.

I don’t see nuffin! What are you doing lookin up my nose?

I was reading some of my content that I had just updated here on LizForADay.  I found a gazillion typos.  I wonder did anybody see them and ignore it because they loved me so much or did they do the exact opposite and loose total respect for anything that I have posted so far?  Now my credibility has gone down the drain.

Oh wait I ain’t got no credibility.  Who cares. 🙂

Story……I have to ask, why do men always immediately wipe their nose with their bare hands when you tell them they have something a creepin up there?  I would always make sure that I was holding my son’s hands down to his side when I told him, because I knew what he was going to do.  It is a man’s natural reflex, I guess.  Eww….Men!

Really there is a moral to the story here.  That being constructive criticism.  I have on many occasion witnessed unquestionable acts of misspellings, wrong word usage etc. .  Things that no blogger in their right mind will let go of without a trial, jury and hang post.  No doubt I probably missed a few on this fantabulous day.  I never said a word when I saw those errors.  Oh please forgive me oh mighty blog-o-spehere!

I usually just think to myself  “Nobodies Perfect”  and continue with my addictive blog reading.  I sometimes wonder should I say something.  Will my new blog buddy be offended and be too sensitive to just say thank you and make the correction?

Well I am here to tell you my friends that I am by no means sensitive.  I can take it like a champ, so if you see anything out of line here at LizForADay I would be more than appreciative if you told me.

And please by all means if you see me with a booger in my nose, I beg of you to tell me and not let me walk around with that nasty thing hanging out of my nose.

If someone tells you that you have a booger in your nose, dig that thing out, walk with your head up right and know you have a friend for life.

Hopefully Booger-less Lurvly Lizzy 🙂

P.S.  I wonder can I be lurvly with snot running down my face.  🙂

OK, you have to tell me what you think of constructive criticism.

Fantabulous Day #144 – Somebody Save Me from the Junk, Soap Box Time, Win Win in Order

Did I say I am a junk food Junky?  If you haven’t heard it, then I will tell you.  I am a junk food junky.  I love Oreos, but who doesn’t.  No, I don’t like to dip them in milk.  I am highly lactose intolerant and will become weaponized and kill my office mates if I drink a drop of milk.  (If you know what I mean.) As you can see all the language on the box is foreign so that means I can eat it.  I can’t see how many calories it is, so I think it is OK.  🙂

This post actually is not about the Junk that you thinking of.  It does not have to do with food at all.  How many times have you opened the mail box and just had a ton of crap.  Everything from magazines, credit card offers, free newsletters, so called free offers and whatever.  I use to get all that stupid stuff. Then I put a spam blocker on my physical mailbox.

I must say I don’t miss it all.  All that paper that I immediately throw away once I get it.  You are saying  “What do you mean Lizzy?” I know, I can read your mind.  I subscribed to a service that virtually deletes all junk mail for that little box outside your residence or PO Box, if that is what you use.

I ran across this site some years ago.  It is time for me to renew my subscription so I thought I would share.  I had forgotten about it until I got a reminder in my email box to re-up.

How it works:

You subscribe ( there is a fee of $35 Annually), you select the kind of mail you are getting (magazine or catalogs) you want to stop.  You can turn those on or off at will, so you will still receive your favorite junk.  You will see the paper in you box decrease dramatically. will contact the companies as your representative to tell them to cease and desist with the junk.  You don’t have to do anything. The fee is well worth.

There is another important benefit.  You can avoid identity theft.  That is a big one.  I hate thieves and why give the additional  opportunities to rip you off.  I don’t get anything for recommending this service.  Just sharing.

I hardly have any mail coming to my home.  That is great.  You win, because now you only get the important stuff and the earth wins because there will be more trees in the world because of you.

See I was on my soap box and you didn’t even know it. Now I am stepping off and slowly walking away. 🙂

Fantabulous Day # 143 – Mystry Fruit You Say? Lychee

I continually meet new food over here.  Sometimes the dining facility gives us good surprises other than food poising.  🙂  Really you never know what you are going to get.  So here it is, today’s mystery fruit….Ta Daaaaa….

Lychee Fruit

No it is not a tiny bra for a squirrel or some goat nuts.  🙂  I had to throw that in, because that is what it looks like to me in the picture.  Sorry.  LOL!

Although we did not know what we were eating, we all tried it.  At the same time we all kept asking what is that?  So we cracked it open and gave it a taste. You know I had to go on the hunt to find out exactly what this thing was. If my research is correct it is Lychee fruit which is native to China.  So I am assuming that is where it was imported from.  It is nice to think I had something from China.  You know I have been trying to get to China for a vacation for a minute now.  Supposedly it is grown in tropical places like….guess where….Florida.  I ain’t never seen these.

Acorn? NO

I am sure this came from a tree.

Honorable mention – you know I had on Red.  :)

The outside of the Lychee has a leathery covering but it is not real hard.   I could still squeeze it.  At first I thought it was a small pine cone or acorn.

Take a look Inside

It is actually extremely easy to open and I didn’t mess my nails up.  🙂  Once you pinch it open the outer covering comes right off.  As soon as I opened it I could smell it.  It almost smells like a floral perfume.

The flesh is white and almost translucent.  It is very beautiful and delicate looking.

See the Pretty Seed?

The texture of the Lychee is somewhat like a grape and the flavor is about the same.  It does have a bit of an after taste, but not a bite.

It was nice to try something new.  It was OK, but not great.

Has anyone had Lychee before?  What is your opinion.

Your Lychee Liking Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #142 – Fruit Grave Yard, Pizza Night & Fan Day Radio Update

Fruit Grave Yard

We always get more than we need.  I have fruit sitting on my desk, just in case I need it.  It looks good now, but it won’t in a couple of days.  But today is movie night and I don’t want no stinking fruit.  I want pizza!  I really have a love affair with pizza.  It makes my tummy so happy.  🙂 🙂 🙂 That is my story anyway and I am sticking to it.

Well I had very busy to day, not to include all the pizza ordering I did.  I don’t know how I became the pizza wench for movie night but I did.  I guess I do such a fantabulous job of it so I got picked.  My boss actually flips for the pizza and we really appreciate it.  No one wants to have dining facility food all the time.  My boss always ask me, “Are we having pizza tonight?”  As if I am the approver.  I always respond “Are we?”  And then he says “Yes.”  It is our little game that we play.  🙂

We have not watched the movie yet so I don’t actually know what it is.  I just want the pizza.  I know that is kind of messed up.

Travel Page Update:  I was doing a search on my personal hard drive and decided to look for .jpg’s.  Guess what?  I found tons of my vacation pictures.  YEAH!  I was so excited, so you all will be benefiting from my masterful, vacation, picture taking.  I will start posting them slowly.  I don’t want to kill anyone.  Visit the Travel Page ever so often and you may be in for a treat.

Podcast Update:  I have been working on the next show episode of Fan Day Radio, keep your eyes open for it.  As usual I have a lot to say.  You know, I truly believe I always have some good to say.  🙂 Let me tell it anyway.  Well time to go pickup the pizzas.

Fantabulous Day # 141 – Colors and a Powerful Personality

I guess you are saying, “Lizzy does not have any thing better to do with her time than take pictures of her nails?’  Well that would be correct.  I love polishing my nails. Picking the color that I am going to wear is like picking clothes out for the day.  It does not seem like anything special to me, because I have been doing it for so long.

I was told that I needed to get a life because I took the time to polish my nails.  I didn’t understand that comment.  It only takes me a total of maybe 20 minutes to perform my artistry.  That’s what I am going to call it.  My mom taught me from an early age, some where around 1, to make my nails look good.  I’m not exaggerating.  🙂  Of course I don’t really care what others think, my nails are a reflection of who I am.  I have a colorful personality as well…………. I like me!

I think it is true that we are the sum of our experiences. Every now and then I have flash backs of some life changing event from my childhood.  Some experience that made me the person I am today.   I have always associated my nail polishing with my mom.  She is actually a retired carpenter, but she always kept her nails nice and her hands always seem so soft to me.  I don’t know if that was all in my mind or what.  She even taught my daughter to take care of her nails, that started also at a very young age.  For my daughter that was about 6 months. 🙂  I love my mom.

I have been told that the way you take care of you hands is a reflection of who you are.  I don’t really care about that.  There is a more simple explanation for me.  I just like the colors.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #140 – Day of Rememberance, 9/11

Not Forgotten

I never forget where I was on 9/11.  I never forget wanting to make a difference.  I never forget the decision to work overseas.  I never forget standing at several ramp ceremonies for soldiers that were on their way home after losing their lives.  I never forget the people I work with who have also lost their lives working with the military.  I never forget that there are people all over the world fighting the good fight everyday along with us.  People, military and civilian alike that work hand in hand because of 9/11.  Those are things that I will never, ever forget.

So I will keep it short and sweet today and ask that you all never forget about all the men and women serving in hostile areas for freedom.  It certainly is not cheap and yet we all enjoy it without a second thought.

Yes, I will always remember. And I want to give a huge shout out and just say “THANK YOU!” to all those who have give their lives for me.
