Fantabulous Day #139 – Distractions, Running in Loops Outside…I Survived the Lurkers!

Day After My Outside Run

As you can see, I have my new ear buds in.  You will find me plugged in on most days and for most of the day. I know some people may find that annoying, but I do it on purpose most of time.  It helps me to be less distracted from the constant traffic in my office.  Also people are less likely to try to stop and talk to me when I’m trying to get somewhere.   That may sound anti-social, but it really isn’t.  I am highly social and sometimes that can be a problem.  🙂

Finally I decided to venture forth and run outside.  I have been asked why I only run on the treadmill.  Well mostly from fear.  I don’t like to be watched.  I know that sounds crazy, but it is true.  The watchers here are not ordinary watchers, they are lurkers.  I hate that.  Yesterday, I decided to chuck that fear and get out there.  I was not bad at all.

My Route

The Turn Around

Keep in mind I have to run around people.

This gives you an idea of what running outside is for me.  I can only go in a circle.  I am not complaining.  It took 17 loops to make 3+ miles.  I may go out again tonight.  At least I got out of the fear of running in front of a gazillion lurkers.  🙂 The pictures were taken in the morning daylight, but it was dark when I ran.

My legs are really feeling a bit sore today.  I think it’s because of running on the concrete.  I need to get use to it anyway.  I really need to run longer.  Wish me luck.  Time is a tickin on the 1/2 marathon clock.  No complaints here.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #138 – Blog Crack, Vacation Plans, Ubud Bali & New Travel Page

I love reading my favorite blogs especially on Sundays.  The reason for this is pretty simple.  It is relatively quite and I can actually catch up on my reading.   I follow so many blogs that it can be distracting at some point.  It it is my blog crack.  🙂

Besides getting my daily blog crack fixes, I have been trying to plan my next vacation.  It took me awhile to decide exactly where I wanted to go.  I didn’t want to go home this time.  I can only be in the states for so many days because of tax ramifications.  I love when I get to go home, but I have an excuse to go on some fantabulous vacations and believe me, I have been on some spectacular ones.

I was originally going to go the China, but it is darn hard to get a tourist visa from here in Afghanistan.  So China will be out for awhile.  I am not going to count it out just yet.  I will keep China on my vacation to do list.  I decided that I don’t want to spend too much money, but I wanted to go some place relaxing where I can do nothing on the cheap.  I am all about cheap.  It is actually cheaper to stay on this side of the world than to fly home.  Those plane tickets are bone crushingly high these days.  It is actually all the taxes and fees that drive the tickets up, but don’t get me started on that losing battle.

My next choice, Bali, Indonesia.  I was originally going to go there a couple of years ago, but there was a big earthquake in Jakarta, so that trip was canceled and I went to South Africa instead, which by the way was the best trip I every had.  If I had my SA trip pictures I would have posted some for you.  It was amazing. They are all on a hard drive at the house.

Let me tell you I hate trip planning.  I know you are saying ” Why don’t you just use a travel agent?”  Well so far I have had really good luck with making my own arrangements and I am a veteran of traveling, so I don’t have a problem with doing it myself.  Plus I don’t think I will get exactly what I want from the trip if I use someone else.  My way of thinking is to get to the place I want to go, have a place to stay and sight-see off the cuff.  I don’t like to have iron clad plans that I will be locked into.  I want to sleep in and do nothing when I feel like it.

My plan is to go to the city of Ubud in Bali.  I am still researching things to see, but if anyone has any suggestions or would like to share their travel experience to Indonesia, I am all ears. I have already booked my room and I am now on the search for an affordable plane ticket.  I will worry about activities after I get there pretty much.  I love sight seeing.

OH, I also started a travel page here on Liz’s Fantabulous Day Blog.  I will be taking some time to update that page with my new and past adventures.  More to come on that one……

I would love to hear your thoughts and don’t be afraid to chime in on the fun poll below. I love for you to leave a comment and tell me a bit about your favorite vacation.

Fantabulous Day #137 – My New Ear Buds…..Luv Them!

New Headphones

My New Ear Buds

My fingers and eyeballs were out walking around in the Blogosphere and I was reading an interesting post.   Peanut Butter & Adrenaline   The author Amanda, was discussing her playlist and she mentioned that there is a song on her list that was creepy.  It sounded like she let it play through to the next song and was a little freaked out about it.

Bose Mini Ear Buds

I totally know the whole playlist dilemma.  I have yet to perfect one.  There is always one song in there that should not have made the cut, but gets included anyway.  I think it will always be a work in progress.  Back to the story.  When I read that she lets the song play through, I thought about my headphones.  I have some old Apple headphones that had the mic and controls on the wire.  I killed them with my sweat, I believe.  They slowly lost there loudness.  I could barely hear my tunes while working out.  Those things cost me over $40 dollars.  I only had them a couple of months.  What a waste of money.

Angle 2 Bose Mini Ear Buds

I originally purchased them because I really love the controls on the wire.  I can have my phone in my pocket and and control the volume, next song, etc from the wire.  So I had to go on the hunt for some new ones.  I really dug deep and purchase some Bose.  They are the best buy I have ever made.  I LOVE them.  I can hear bass. I could not believe that I was missing the bass.  They stay in my ears when I am moving.  That is definitely a plus.

I will review them on the next Fan Day Radio Show.  It is the small things in my world that make me happy.  🙂

Enjoy Life …….Lizzy     🙂

Fantabulous Day #136 – Happy Labor Day & Farwell to a Friend, Cheers to the US, Afghan Life

Happy Labor Day!  This is a day to celebrate the American workers.  Wouldn’t you know, I have to work on Labor Day.  OH WELL…those are the breaks.  Now we will have a new worker soon.  My friend Khyber.

Me & Khyber

This is Khyber and yours truly of course.  This was his last day here.  He is on his way to live in the US.  I am so happy for him.  He is one of the hardest workers here that I know.  I think he is going to do very well.  Yes is natural born Afghan.  Whenever he introduces his self to anyone, he always jokingly say “Hello, my named is Khyber and I am not a terrorist.”  It is a shame that he would even have to say that.  I think that throws people off guard.

I was surprised to find out that there are many Afghanistan residents who would love to relocate to the US.  I don’t blame them.  The people here live a hard life.  Forget about their beliefs.  Day to day life is a coin toss.  Yes we are here to help, but these people have to live in an military occupied country where their own people are against them most of the time.  That sucks.

Although I am living here, I don’t really talk about Afghan life.  One reason is because we live a very shelter life on military installations.  Can you imagine the above as you main transportation for everything.  Of course they have cars also, but it is still a surprise to see actually donkeys.  It is either the donkey or you.

Can you say Flintstones!

That would suck to have a job like that.  Is that a wooden wheel!  WOW!

Hanging Meat

Yes it is the middle of summer and this is the meat market.  Yes flies live here.  You put 2 & 2 together.

We really should not feel sorry for them.  This is a way of life for them no matter what we think and there plenty of good people working with us.  Khyber is one of those guys and I am going to miss him.

Khyber & Pinky

Pinky is my knife.  🙂  Oh well, I will catch up with you in the states my friend.

Your Lotus Lizzy 🙂

PS….Don’t take your life for granted.  Period!

Fantabulous Day #135 – Food Poisoning, Internet Outages & Missing My Blogging

Venice Waterway

It has been quit a few days since my last  post.  Well I have been super sick and trying to nurse myself back to health.  Unfortunately in the Accounting world there is no such thing as having a day off at the end of the month.  So I have not only been sick, but still busy.  Does it count as work if you use your keyboard as a pillow?  I am going to say yes.  If I have to be at work I want to be paid, even if I am just sitting.  🙂 ……….OK, my boss may not think so.  Actually I managed to be very productive.

Needless to say there ain’t been no running going on, which sucks.  I was running pretty good with my buddy Miguel.  I think I ate something really bad and my stomach is so messed up.  I have never felt this bad.  I have always bragged about having a steel trap for a stomach and my stomach let me down.  I am not sure what the cause was, but I am not bouncing back very well. I can usually eat my way through any sickness, but my poor tummy is not cooperating.  I could look on the bright side, it is a great way to lose weight…NOT!  See that’s why I hate diets.

Our internet has also been funky lately so I have not written nor read any blogs.  That is another downfall of living here and another part of life as we know it.  The internet can be here today and gone tomorrow.  I’m just happy we have a pretty good connection most of the time.  I have a lot to catch up on.  All I want to do is sleep right now, but mama has to count the beans for another couple of hours.  It has been raining today and as soon as I wrote that last line the sun came out.  That is definitely a good sign.  🙂

Your Lotus Lizzy 🙂

P.S.  The picture is from a trip to Italy.  I love taking pictures.  I do not proclaim to be an expert, but I do pretty good for myself.  I think I am going to start a travel page.  I really have been to some amazing places.  I will put that on my to do list.  🙂 Peace Out.

Fantabulous Day # 134 – Team work, Guilt Trip Exercise Partners & Lots of Love

Team Work

Wouldn’t it be great if we took all our cues from nature.  I seem to be into photographing insects these days.  It actually came out good, didn’t it.  And for you guys working in Afghanistan, yes that is grass behind the vicious wasps.  Actually I was almost up on the wasp and really did not give a hootie hoot about me.  They just wanted the tree sap.  They don’t even think about what needs to be done.  They just Get-RRR-Done!

Derek Miller Author “The Attic Diary”

The above picture is my good friend.  He is very dramatic, colorful and creative.  He decided that we should shame our other good friend into working out.  He has dub us the Guilt Trip Exercise Partners.  I actually really love that name.  There really is no shame in our game.  We make ourselves feel good by asking others “Did you work out today?”  We only do that if we have already worked out.  No need in drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves if we have not.

The truth of the matter here is we have to maintain a certain body fat percentage in order to stay on this project.  It makes sense.  That would not happen if we weight 2 tons and had to make a quick getaway.  We really are looking out for one another.  It is so easy to forget the requirements when you work with me work long hours and do mostly the same thing day in and day out.  We all become complacent.  We don’t want to let our friends go out like that.

Miguel the Man

This was my Guilt Trip Exercise Partner for the day.  Miguel is one of my dearest friends and I am so happy he allowed Derek and I to shove him to get him moving. 🙂 Believe me Derek and I have no room to judge and so we don’t.

By the way Derek has really inspired me.  He has lost over 20 killer pounds.  Rock on WD!

Yeah!  For us!

I post this with lots and lots of love.  ♥♥♥

Fantabulous Day #133 – Before & After, Get Moving for God Sake!

Don’t laugh too hard, but this is me before my run and me after.  As you can see, I was all smiles, but by the end there was no smile to be found in the room.  My hair was even tired, if that is possible.  I only ran 3+ miles.  Well it was more of a ……  You get the point.  I wanted to go take a nice afternoon nap, but I had to go back to work.  That is the bad think about lunch time workouts, no time to veg out before getting back to work.

I have been trying to get my grove back.  I am determined to get my grove back! Dagnabit!  Sorry for the foul Bugs Bunny language. (That is telling my age)  It is very frustrating to want to get moving, but you mind, body and soul are all in ca-house(I hope I spelled that right) to be a couch potato.  I was telling a friend today that it is not really about the exercise, it is about moving.  That is how I started on my journey to the half, by vowing to get moving.  Actually it started before my first 5k last year.  Moving got me to the end of the race and I was not last.

The positive side is I can move.  I am thankful that I have a body that can move.  I am alive and breathing and all my moving part move.  That is truly a blessing.  I am not complaining, I will get my grove back.  Until then I will continue to keep moving.

Fantabulous Day #132 – And the Heavens Opened Up!

Hail in Afghanistan!

I don’t normally post twice in one day, but it has been very exciting.  What made it exciting was the rain.  As you can imagine we don’t get a lot of rain here so when it does, it becomes a big event.  Everyone stopped working and congregated around the doors and windows. This region can use all the rain it can get.  God is good.

There is something soothing about the sound of the rain.  The fact that it Hailed for a couple of minutes just add a little bit more to the already sleepy sounds.  If you look hard at the picture ( you can enlarge by clicking on it) you will see the hail.  WOW! 🙂

I know what you are say, “You guys got to get a life.”  The fact is, this is life for us.  Especially if you have been working over her for years, which most of us have.  6 1/2 for me.  So let us have our fun.

I hope everyone is having or had a great weekend.

Peace Out!

Fantabulous Day #131- Running Alone & An Unexpected Invite

Flower Shop in Levorno, Italy

My company has people working all over Afghanistan and every once in awhile I actually get to meet the people that I am in communication with.  One of those people is John who I only get to see for a short time every now and then.  All my coworkers know about my Disney 1/2 Marathon training.  I did that on purpose for accountability purposes of course.

Once you say things out loud you are automatically held accountable.  It is like they are all counting on me to make the goals that I have set:

Start……………….Finish………………………Not be Last  🙂

My friends here are always asking “How many miles?”  I enjoy sharing my life with them.  Anyway John gave me an invite to run with him next time he comes through.  I thought that was awesome.  I immediately accepted, but then……the dread set in.

John is an grownup runner and I am a baby runner.  How am I going to keep up with him?  I sent him an email back to let him know that I would run with him, but I am very slow.  He told me not to worry about that, he would run at my pace.

I like John.  That made me feel at easy and I am really looking forward to our run.  I have never run with anyone before, so I think I would really enjoy it.  I will let you all know once we have our quality time/quality run together.

Thanks John for the invite. 🙂

Fantabulous Day #130 – Wild Planet Tuna & Sustainablity

I’m Hungry!

I pride myself on being some what of an environmentally friendly person.  I know there are a lot of things that I could do better.  I have taken many baby steps to do my part for the well being of our planet.  Even when I am not being earth friendly, I recognize room for improvement in reference to my hippism.  Therefore I refrain from being preachy when it comes to my Econess.

One bad thing that I recognize as very unfriendly is my online purchases.  If you have never given this a thought, you may be asking what does that have to do with being unfriendly to the earth.  Well it is not what you purchase, but how that purchase gets to you.  It takes a lot of resources for item to be imported to countries when they are not locally available.  I actually try to get more of my needed items by having them purchased through some of our local coworkers.

I feel better, in my own world, when I can find a way to mitigate some  of the bad Eco habits that I have.  I order a lot of food and I wanted to order some Tuna.  Yes I am vegetarian, but I still eat some fish.  I just so happen to have run across Wild Planet SkipJack Light Tuna.  This tuna is not packed with water or oil and it is pole caught.  I have to say, it is very good.

The short story is the tuna is not caught with nets.  Nets are horrible.  Many other animals are caught by tuna fisherman.  It really is a long story and maybe I will talk about it on Fan Day Radio.  The bottom line…Tuna is one of those over fished fishy.  🙂  I am glad I found this brand.

The point is, I have thought about how my shopping habits affect the planet and that it is important to eat sustainable food if possible.  Sometimes it is not possible.  I have to eat what I am given, being isolated on a small camp here in Afghanistan.  That is just one small baby step that I think, will not so much make a huge difference, but a difference no less.

Your Lotus Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #129 – It’s All About My Podcast, Fan Day Radio ITunes Submission, Yeah!

Now Listed in iTunes Directory

Although people read my post all the time, I don’t really think they know about Fan Day Radio.  That is my very own podcast.  “What is a podcast?”, you say.  It is a basically a short show made to be listen to on iPods and other devices that are broadcast over the internet using feeds.  Here are some questions that I always get.

Podcast FAQ:
Who produces podcast?  Anyone.  There are a gazillion podcast out there.  Some good, some bad.  There are all type of topics to choose from.  You can actually listen or view some podcast.  They can be audio or video.

How much do they cost?  Podcast are free.

How can you listen? You can download them directly from the website where they are mentioned.  There are podcast directories everywhere.  Of course you can download some from the iTunes and Zune directory.

Can you give me some examples:
An example of a video podcast:  Photo Tips, The Suzie Orman Show (all free)
An example of an audio podcast: Running at the Center of the Universe, Fan Day Radio (Short for Fantabulous Day Radio)

What are some of your favorites?
Running at the Center of the Universe
Running with the Pack
Geeks in Running  Shoes
Raw Vegan Radio
I Eat Green
Dirt Dawg Diatribe
The Moth Podcast
Vegetarian Food for Thought
And More. If you know of any podcast let me know. I would love to pickup more, believe it or not. The list goes on.  I love podcast.  I learn so much from them.

Why did you start podcasting? For something to do.  I kind of picked it up as a hobby.  I experimented with it and found that it was a lot of fun.  My listeners loved it and so I continued to produce episodes.

How long does it take to produce? Each episode takes a couple of hours.  I try to have at least an outline of what I am going to talk about.  I don’t talk about anything outside of my world. Then I record, edit, edit, edit.  I add music and it is ready to post to my online server. Then you can listen any time you like.

How can I listen to Fan Day Radio? If you are able to stream from your computer, you can listen to current and past episodes by going to the Fan Day Radio tab and click on the episode you would like to listen too.  You can also listen by clicking on the RSS symbol at the top right hand corner of the page and click on the episode you would like to listen to.

How do I subscribe, what does that mean? You can subscribe by going to the feed and subscribing.  New episodes will flow automatically to your feeds for listening as they become available.  Otherwise you can subscribe to the blog and you will see a post once a new episode becomes available. Or go to the basement (Archives) to listen.

How often are new episodes available? Right now about once a month.  I don’t want to produce a podcast just for the sake of making a recording.  I believe there should be some meaningful content.  Since my experiences here are so limited because of the location where I am, I don’t want to bore anyone to death.

If anyone has any other questions about Podcast, let me know.  I would be happy to help if you think that is something you would like to do.  It is sooooo easy.

Here is the message I got from iTunes

Dear podcast owner,

Your podcast, located at, has been approved. You should expect to see it on the iTunes Store within the next few hours. When it’s available, you will be able to access it with the URL below.

You will be able to find your podcast through a search on the iTunes Store within the next two days.

For more information on iTunes Podcasts, including how to change or remove your feed, see Making a Podcast and our FAQ.

The iTunes Store Team

I feel like a superstar.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  Thanks to all my loyal listeners. If you do happen to listen and want to comment, I would ask that you leave a little comment luv on iTunes.  Thanks.

Fantabulous Day #128 – Yes I am a Runner & a Reader, I Know Derek Miller, WOW!

I have always wanted to be an author.  I just could never get going.  I don’t consider myself a superb writer.  I do alright with spell check most of the time.  Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t given up my dream of writing a book.    I just don’t know where to begin.

Now I actually know a published author in the flesh.  He is actually a very good friend.  I had no idea that he was writing this book until it was already published.  Me being the supportive friend that I am, I went directly to Amazon to pick up my copy of the book.

It took me a while to read it.  It would be great if I could have read it while I was running.  I have seen people run or do other exercises while reading.  I was never able to do this.  I always get dizzy when I try.

Derek Miller is the author.  He wrote The Attic Diary for his daughter as a birthday present. That is cool in and of itself.  It is probably more for a teenage audience, but to tell you the truth I really enjoyed reading it myself.  I am certainly no teenager.  The book is about Hannah who finds an old diary in the attic of her Grandmothers home.  Once she begins to read it she quickly discovers that her ancestors have a very interesting past.  The story involves runaway slaves, the underground railroad and family secrets, which I will not divulge.  You will have to read the book for yourself to find out.

One part that really stood out for me is the following excerpt:

If I thought I was scared, it was nothing compared to what I saw in the eyes of Pansy and Moses as I began to pile field corn over the top of the old feather mattress.

Hear I was, a stranger, saying, “Lie in the back of my wagon, be covered up in complete darkness, put your life in my hands and trust me.”

Is that what faith is like sometimes? Just trusting the Lord to take you to safety, even if you don’t have any idea where He’s taking you?

There was another part in the book that I really loved, but I can’t tell you because it would give too much away.  Sorry.  As you can see the book has some moral messages sprinkled here and there.  It is a short read, 80 pages.  It is an easy read.  I think I would have enjoyed reading this more in school instead of stupid books like Red Badge of Courage or Lord of the Flies, which by the way I have no idea what they were about.

Any who………  The Verdict ……..A Thumbs Up

I purchased the book on Amazon for a mere $5.99 on paperback.  It is only $2.99 for Kindle version.  I believe any school age child would enjoy it.  Great job WD (Inside Joke)!

Hint:  Check it out. It brought tears to my eyes at the end.

Your Literate Lotus Lizzy 🙂

P.S. Please consider leaving a comment on Amazon if you read it.  Derek will love you forever.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #127 – Play with Your Food, Be Happier & Easy Quinoa/Black Bean Burgers

Liz’s Quinoa & Black Bean Burgers

I love food.  I am definitely a foodie.  I not only like love to eat, but I love to cook.  Over the years I have learned to experiment.  Unfortunately the family had to suffer thorough my food failures and at the same time they have benefited from my food successes.  The above picture are some great quinoa black bean burgers that I decided to throw together.  Yes that’s right I love throwing food together, so to speak (not visually speaking). I do like my food to look good.

If I didn’t tell you that these burgers were vergetarian, would you have known?  I think not. Not from the picture.  Anyway it is worth experimenting with food.  As long as you don’t burn the house down, why not go for it.  I do it all the time.  Most of the time, I end up with some great concoctions.  More times than not, I sort of forget what I did and I spend the rest of my life trying to replicate some fantastic recipe that I whipped up on a whim.

In the end I am usually happy with my choices.  It is nice not to be confined to what is considered the normal meal of meat and potatoes.  Since becoming a vegetarian, I have become so much more food aware and my food choices have actually expanded exponentially.

I thought it was time to post a recipe from my limited collection of what I have been able to do with limited resources.  Imagine what I could do if I had a real grocery store.

As you can cooking and eating makes me happy.

Liz’s Easy Quinoa & Black Bean Burgers

Black Beans – I used dried beans and cooked them ahead of time in my crock pot
Quinoa – 1 cup cooked
Green Bell Pepper
Sun dried Tomatoes
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Cumin 1/2 tablespoon
Egg Replacer 1 tablespoon
Panco Bread Crumbs 1/2 cup
Flour 1 tablespoon

You will notice that I did not put amounts for some of the ingredients.  That’s because I really didn’t know what to put.  I kind of threw everything together to taste.  However you will need to first mix the Quinoa and Black Beans together along with the onions, bell pepper and sundried tomatoes. Mix 1/2 of the mixture in food processor until everything is blended together. Don’t blend it into submission.

Next mix everything together in a bowel. Form your patties. I made mine big, but small slider type sizes would work well also.  Brown on each side in a pan over medium heat.  All you need to do now is fix it up just a you would do a regular burger and enjoy.  There is on going wrong with this one. Your really don’t even need bread. You can add whatever you like.

Remember to play with your food and enjoy these fantabulous burgers.

You Lotus Lizzy 🙂

Fantabulous Day #126 – WOW, Finally the Big 20! Go Liz Go!

I finally made it to 20 miles in one week.  I have been focusing on running longer and not so much on faster.  I have actually really been enjoying my runs.  Although I took a tumble, I still feel good about my training on the treadmill.

Of course I was doing some funky math so the original goal was 20.82.  I did 20.81.   I like to be honest with my numbers.  I still have all of today to make that .01 mile up, but seriously what would be the point.  I am good with the outcome.

Eventually my goal will be to run 25 miles per week.  I don’t know if I will keep that up after the Disney Half is over, but I will try to keep my miles up.  As you can also see I am down to 4 months until the actual run.  Every time that count down changes my stomach does some loops.  I am thinking to myself how in the world will I be able to make 13 miles?  My furthest long run to date is 6+ miles.  I am almost half way.

I will do the best that I can.  Wish me luck.  I am so proud of myself.

Go Liz Go!  🙂

Fantabulous Day #125 – Treadmills Can be Dangerous, Ask Me, I Can Prove It

I have been really enjoying my runs this past week.  Mainly because I have been rockin the miles, based on my goals of course and not being in pain.  I can attribute that to running slower and focusing on my form.  Today was no different.  Except……

I really had to go to the bathroom after about a mile.  I really wanted to do 3 miles during my lunch run and I didn’t want to stop….for anything.  So I decided I was going to hold it until I got finished.  Keep in mind, I am running at a slow pace.  It was going to take me another 30 minutes at the very least to complete my lunch time goal.  Now I had a dilemma.  To go or not to go, that was the question.  I decided to keep on going.

However my body said, “Nope, that’s not going to happen. You are going to stop or else!”  So I stopped, kind of……………  I don’t know what I was thinking.  I just decided to walk off the treadmill, without stopping it.  I know what you are saying.  WOW, Lotus. You are not as smart as I thought.  I was thinking this too as I plummeted to the floor.

Ohhhhhh…… if it was that easy, just to hit the floor.  Let me paint the scene for you.   It was more like one of the videos that has gone viral where the guy is running and all of a sudden he is flying backwards and shoes are flying everywhere.  Well my shoes did not come off, but I did hit the belt pretty hard and then was tossed backward until I landed safely on the hard cold floor.

It sounds hilarious doesn’t it.  It was, I must admit.  I was alone but I really was laughing at myself.  I could not make this up and I have the scares to prove it.

My Leg Wound

My Arm Wound

I know it does not look like much now, but wait until tomorrow when they are all nice and scabby, then you will see.  Any who,  I didn’t get hurt that bad.  I still have my lotus blossom ego in tact and I don’t have any broken bones.  When you get to be my age injuries tend to sneak up on you later.  So we will see what happens.

The moral of the story is to be careful on the treadmill.  Nobody got killed in the gym today, but that may not be the case in the future.  🙂

I don’t mind taking one for the team so that you all can learn from my mistake. 🙂

Fantabulous Day #124 – My Mantra…I am Going to Make Good Choices Today

Snack of the Champs!

I am going to be a better person today than I was yesterday. I am going to take baby steps today.  I am going to think good thoughts today.  I am going to think, say and do positive things today.  These are all mantras that I start my day off with.  What kind of mantras do you start your day out with?

Today’s photo was my snack.  Amazingly enough the pickings for fruit in our dining facility are pretty good during the summer months.  I love the watermelon.  I remember when we were young and my parents would buy whole watermelons on the side of the road.  They would then refrigerate it and the next day it was on.

The kicker – My mom would put us outside on the front stairs with a salt shaker and each kid would get a great big ole wedge of watermelon.  Yes we ate our watermelon with salt.  Of course I have not done that since I was little.  These days I eat my watermelon in it’s natural glory.  I love it.

Back to my mantra for the day, making good choices today.  Sometimes I think I make better decisions when I say this out loud first thing in the morning.  It is all about how you start your day.

I would love to hear what you think.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #123 – Reading Blogs, Comment Luv, Middle Age, & Non-Stressful Running

OK,  yes the quietness on all the running & fitness blogs is very understandable to me.  I too have been smitten with the Olympic bug.  Not to mention I have been super busy at work.  I have not even been able to read all the blogs that I love to read.  Well now the excuses are over and it is time for me to get back to my running schedule and my normal reading habits.  After all, reading is supposed to be good exercise for your brain.  I can use all the exercise I can get.

Instead of blogging myself, I have been enjoying other blogs and leaving lots of comment love in return for their great stories.  I love to read about training schedules, race reports, sibling rivalries, vegan recipes, and I love, love, love the pictures.

In my attempt to get in some much addictive blog reading I have found that there are other baby runners out there that are constantly worried about how fast they run.  I try to tell myself, “Self don’t worry about how fast you can go, just go!”

But me being me still wants to be stuck on how fast I am running.  I do realize that my truly faster days are far behind me as I am well into the middle ages.  I don’t know about that though.  Who gets to define what middle aged is these days.  People are so much stronger and they live so much longer than in the past.  So I think it is safe to assume that I can still be a great runner in my own right.

I ran across the picture above and it was truly inspiring to me.  Really you could apply this philosophy to anything in your life.  Like writing/blogging.  It does not matter if you write two sentences or four paragraphs.  You are still blogging.  It does not matter if you climb up 15 stairs or 1500 stairs.  The point is you are climbing.

So I decided to post this above my desk and I look at it everyday and wanted to share it with my people.  So there you have it people.  Don’t stress out if you only ran 10 miles this week or how fast.  10 miles is 10 amazing, long, not anyone can do 10 miles.  🙂

Fantabulous Day #122 – Elite Athletes, Overrated Sleep and Staying Focused

Simon Says!

Coach Simon gave me this picture.  I guess you want to know who coach Simon is?  Well he is my coworker.  I decided to make him my coach after he sent me the picture above.  Simon is from Kenya and the only place he runs is to the dinning facility if he wants to make it there before it closes.  That is his contribution to my Disney ½ Marathon training.  He also reminds me constantly that I need to be drinking water.  I am horrible at reminding myself to do it, so I welcome his constant nagging and advice.

I Wuv You Simon for caring about my well being. 🙂

I must say things have been very quite here in the Fantabulous world of Lizzy.  I have been doing minimal workout and watching as much of the Olympics in the wee hours before I pass out and the morning hours between wake up and work time.  I love watching the elite athletes do their thing.  I have actually been losing sleep because of the different time zones.  I have the hardest time keeping up with the schedules.  Oh well, sleep is so over rated………..NOT! I do love my sleep.  I am not going to lie.  I can barely keep my eyes open after a certain time of night.  I guess that comes with age.

Can you imagine doing nothing but training everyday.  You could never have a bad day or be lazy.  Why?  Because you country is depending on you.  That must be incredibly stressful.  In any case these people are amazing.  Here I am in the mist of my Disney half marathon training and I decide I just don’t want to workout.  I am totally not motivated. Don’t get me wrong, I am still training, just slower than normal.

Any who I am not kicking myself in the butt.  I’m just saying……  I don’t feel stressed at all.  I am not running the marathon for anyone else but myself.  I don’t want any stress so I am staying focused on my three goals:

Not be Last!

That’s easy………………….Right?

I am a professed wino and I also call myself a modern day hippy. I really liked the post about wine. Whenever I am home, I make it my business to drink a least a glass a day. I ran across this post and thought it would be great to pass on. Enjoy. Your Lotus Lizzy 🙂

Homemade Delish

As you probably know by now, I review all sorts of wine on my blog.  Whether it’s white or red, I love my wine.  Lately, the newest trend as we know is Organic wine.  Now some of you may cringe and some may jump up for joy, but my logic is “don’t knock it until you try it.”  I have tried a couple of organic wines and I was suprised at how good they really are.  Checkout why some winemakers are going Green and how things are changing.

Although this is a sponsored post, I find that it is something which is current in today’s world.  The information included taught me a few things and my personal experiences from have been wonderful.
